Prompting

Art journals are lovely things. When I'm at a loss for writing a page or two off the top of my head I look for journalling prompts to get me through. I am always on the lookout for new prompts and art journal ideas.

Last week I found Janel's 30 Day Sketchbook challenge.  Such fun! No need to find my own prompts to use.  That works for me.

Now if only I had a blank journal to catch up in.  I priced some out the other day at Michael's.  The watercolour one I want is $32 for not even enough pages!  I'm gonna need to ask Dr. Google about this one.

Are any of you doing any art journalling?  Have you seen Janel's art journal Flickr group?

Blogging in bed

It seems everybody who is in the know likes to have blog posts written ahead of time. You know, those bloggers who have posts that exist for longer than 5 minutes before you post them for the whole wide world to see.

I?  Can barely drag posts out on time (meaning for a linky party somewhere).  I was getting frustrated by hauling my tired behind up out of bed every night I had a good idea for a post.  By the time I got up and the computer was going my idea was long gone.

Frustrating.

Then I read this.  Wait. What? REEEEEALLY?

So now I can roll over in bed, peck out my blog post on my iPod and email it to my drafts folder.

Thank you Carolyn!

Emailing rough blog posts to my drafts folder works for me!

What blogging tips/tricks make it easier for you to keep up on posting?

Sprung from The Routine

It usually starts with a growl, a groan, a "it's whaaaat time?" Followed by some frenzied clothes finding, a rude awakening and a crying baby.  Then it slows to a crawl while one of us plods through eating breakfast.  Blogs are read while sipping tea in the vain hope it will waken me enough that I'll remember to take my medication and brush my own damn teeth.  Hubs is awakened to entertain the toddler while I shuffle Turtle off to school (a whole two minutes away so WHY are we late 1x a week?).

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Then, the skies parted, angels sang and...

Spring! Break! Is HERE!

Monday began with all of us sleeping in until the previously unachieved hour of 10am!  I'm sure staying up until 10pm the night before had nothing at all to do with that.  There was no screeching about needing to get up, no running out the door and down the hallway to get-to-the-school-on-time-omg-run-faster!  There was cuddles and kisses and warm groggy toddlers.

Then I shattered all of Turtle's illusions about Spring Break by making her help me disassemble the pantry closet while her sister slept.  We talked about natural disasters.  Watched movies and ate Turtle's favourite (KD!) for lunch.

Yesterday went much the same, minus the pantry clean out.  We spent the majority of our day working on paintings.  Sitting at the table as I showed her how to paint without pulling bristles out of the brush.  She reminded me of how very much like her artistic (PURPLE SKIES MAWM!) she is.

Spring Break? You are so hired!  Please extend your stay another 2 or three weeks.

Nothing to see here

Or is there?!

It's been a week full of procrastination around here.  One thing has led to another and now it's Thursday!

So here's some catch up for you

On Thursday!

I printed out one of Get Organized Wizard's menu printables*, I love that it lets me plan out breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I'm going to do a display version of this for myself.

Laura posted this link on January 10th's Menu Plan Monday. I found this awesome idea to use up one of the cork boards I have hiding in my pantry at the moment. Now to see if I have the ribbon and such to make my own version (in green and blue of course!).

So far this week we've eaten pita pizzas, creamy cheeseburger macaroni, waffles and bacon.
Thursday (today!) - scrambled eggs and toast
Friday - spaghettini and meat sauce
Saturday - pizza buns, we're going to switch up the toppings for this one, basically our regular pita pizza toppings on buns

Yeah, still Thursday!

Monday night I had Turtle completely empty out her art & craft shelf in our linen closet. She threw out a full shopping bag full of papers and mostly used notebooks. We added some more papers to her bags to scan and post here.

Well, now I'm only a day behind!

Have you seen Awesome Note? You should try it! I tried the Lite version, then I saw what I could do with the full version and bought it for my iPod**.  I love that I don't need to clutter up my planner with multiple post-it notes now! I could use Awesome Note for appointments and scheduling as well, but honestly, sometimes I really love my pen and paper!

*I won this  in November of 2009 from one of Laura's Round-Ups.

**I paid full price for this from Apple's App store. I love the App store.

Works for Me Wednesday - Flylady Anti Procrastination Day!

This week has been a bit iffy what with me waking up Saturday afternoon from a nap and coughing up a lung. The cough has hung on all week and I am refusing procrastinating making a trip to the doctor.

So in the spirit of Flylady's Anti Procrastination day I decided to tackle a few tasks I've been avoiding putting off for a few weeks days. Nothing like doing housework/decluttering instead of waiting at the doctor's office for a few hours!

Last night I started with my desk.  Here's the before.

Yup. Quite the unsightly delightful mess! Please, pass me that black shopping bag so I can hide my head in it!

Several Farscape episodes and twenty four hours later here's the after(s)!

Ahhhhh... A clutter free desk!

While doing this I had to accomplish a few other things! Clean my earrings I took off almost a week ago.  Sort out the filing to add to our new filing drawer in the storage closet. Enter the index cards I wrote the list for My Chores.  Posted (and sold!) ads for the bassinet and car seat we had sitting in the living room and girls' room.

Before, the desk was a heap of 'to do' piles that I just kept shuffling around and sighing at.

After, I now have a nice clear space to finally work on some art!  Flylady's Anti Procrastination day works for me!

Works-For-Me Wednesday - Library Edition

I like books. No, I love books. There is something fabulous about holding a book and taking the time to immerse yourself in it.

Having said that, while I love books I don't love the price tag on 90% of them.  I will wait months (even years in some cases) for books to go on sale.  Not 10, 20, or even 50%. I'm talking about you pay $5 for a hard cover book that was $30 plus dollars when it came out!

So how do I indulge my love of reading AND books without breaking the bank?

I use the library. Specifically I use my local library's online catalog.  I can log onto the catalog any time of night and day. Then I can search for (nearly) any book and request it.  The book is then sent to my library when it's available and I can go pick up a handful of books at the same time!

Being a mom who works part time two days a week, has to bus the eldest to and from school, I love that I can browse my library from home and find all the books I want!

Online library catalog with requesting, renewing and searching options works for me!
